Today I heard a psychologist talking on the radio, and he said something that stirred my stagnant brain liquids.
He was talking about the level of education's effect on political beliefs. He claimed that for the most part, the more educated a person is, the more liberal that person is. And that got me thinking a little. If someone doesn't understand something, they're likely to take viewpoints on it which they wouldn't take if they did understand that thing. I realized that most of the Mormons here are conservative based pretty much only on their religious beliefs, which affect their political standings. And now, look what's happening. Mormons are trying to shove religious beliefs on intelligent design into the educational curriculum and shove Darwin's theories out.
I wasn't going to go into detail on that, but I will anyways. I think that the Mormons don't really get the picture. It's not that science and religion have to fight each other for control of people's thoughts. They don't. Science and Religion are just two different ways of finding out information, and they're very different. Science is a solid practice. It takes procedures, data, observations, proof, and what not. Religion is a soft philosophy. It's pretty much just a big assertive guess when it comes to explaining things like intelligent design. Anyways, Science and Religion can sit side by side without so much as interfering with each other because they're so different. It's just that religious beliefs are being threatened by science, which they don't understand, and they think they have to fight it.
And then the guy started talking about gay rights. When you use that as an example, his claim fits right in. People out in the midwestern United States who go to community colleges and work at factories are pretty well against gays. People up in New England and down in California with their estimable universities and institutions are more supportive of gays. In fact, Massachusetts is the only state which allows same-sex marriage, and California is home to one of the largest homosexual civil unions in the world. And why is this? It could very well be because of their level of education.

Ben Franklin was born today, exactly 300 years ago. In commemoration of Franklin's birthday, his city of Philadelphia is holding all sorts of celebrations and exhibitions displaying his extraordinary wisdom and ingenuity, with diagrams and theses abound. It's actually pretty amazing, considering the time period, for a guy to conceive so many ideas, most of which didn't get considered further by other scientists for decades.

In other news, today I have to go back to school. This might be a good thing, considering it'll stop me from lazing about all the time. But, since it's the beginning of a new term, I won't have nearly enough homework to keep me busy all week long. But I'll worry about that later.
